After cranking out occasional solo tracks for a few years, the xx’s production mastermind Jamie xx announced plans to release his first solo album In Colour earlier this week. And today, he’s shared the new song “Loud Places,” a collaboration with his xx bandmate Romy Madley Croft. You might expect a song that features two thirds of the xx to sound something like the xx, but that’s not what’s happening here. Instead, “Loud Places” is an extremely restrained, beautifully produced piece of diva-house, with Madley Croft singing about dizzy ecstasy in half a whisper. It’s lovely. Below, listen to the song and a quick BBC interview with Jamie xx.
In Colour is coming out in June on Young Turks.
