Fresh Snow – “Proper Burial” (Feat. DIANA’s Carmen Elle) (First Listen)

Toronto quartet Fresh Snow knows how to bend the genres into one wonderfully noisy
soundscape by experimenting with fuzzy punk riffs and droning synths. They debuted their first album I, an instrumental psych experience, in 2013 along with a few singles, and they’re set to follow it up this fall with Won, which will feature vocals from Damian Abraham (Fucked Up) and Carmen Elle (DIANA). The latter guests on single “Proper Burial.” The track combines Elle’s beautifully haunting vocals with eerie dripping ambiance, and Canadian songwriter Laura C. Bates’ backing vocals and violin looming in the background. The prominent grooving bass line carries you through on a gentle wave, while the drums build you up and echoing synths strike hard on screeching notes. “Proper Burial” is a balance between themes of tragedy and a yearning tranquility, where you never know if you’re heading for something better or another dark turn. As the verse goes, “You’re either looking for love or a proper burial.” Listen below.
