John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees has a synthesizer side project called Damaged Bug — this guy is good at naming bands. (See also: Coachwhips, Pink And Brown, Yikes, Sword And Sandals, the Hospitals, and Dig That Up, It’s Alive.) Anyway, Dwyer previously released Hubba Bubba last year under the Damaged Bug name, and he’s announced the follow-up today; it’s called Cold Hot Plumbs, so add another expertly-titled item to his resume. Lead single “The Mirror” skitters around like an insect or a renegade shard of glass when you’re trying to sweep up seven years of bad luck. Listen to the track below, and take a minute to appreciate how that sweet and low bass line balances out all the intermittent button-pushing jitters.
Cold Hot Plumbs is out 6/1 via Castle Face.
