At the age of two months, he moved to Detroit where he was brought up by his mother and grandmother. He is a graduate of Cass Technical High School.

In his songs, Big Sean often talks about “West Side”, referring to the west of the city of Detroit.

During his last years in high school, Sean forges a valuable relationship with WHTD, a hip-hop radio station in Detroit, who wants to show his rapper skills during the weekly battles organized by the station.


On September 30, 2007, Big Sean released his first mixtape, Finally Famous: The Mixtape. His single Get’cha Some, produced by WrighTrax, attracts the attention of the media. The Source magazine and the Metro Times newspaper devoted an article to it. A clip of this single is made by Hype Williams.


In 2007, Big Sean signed with Kanye West at GOOD Music and in 2008 he joined Def Jam.

In June 2011, Sean drops his first studio album Finally Famous. The album was produced by Kanye West, Malak, Jeff Bhasker, Mike Posner, No ID, The Olympics, Tricky Stewart, Xaphoon Jones and Neptunes, and featuring artists such as Rick Ross, Pharrell, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Chiddy Bang and John Legend.


On August 4, 2011, Big Sean was arrested for sexual assault at a concert in Lewiston, New York. On October 26, 2011, Big Sean pleaded guilty to unlawful second degree imprisonment and was fined $750. The accusations of sexual abuse at the third level have been dropped.


In September 2011, Big Sean confirmed in an interview with the Daily Tribune that he was going to work on his second album during the I Am Finally Famous Tour and that the album should be released in the summer of 2012.


He released his second studio album “Hall Of Fame” in August 2013 which included the hit single “I Don’t Fuck with You.”


On February 24th 2015, His fourth album, Dark Sky Paradise debuted atop the Billboard 200 making it his first No. 1 album.


He released a joint album with Jhene Aiko called Twenty88 in April 2016 and at the same donated $10 000 to the city of Detroit to help with the Flint water crisis.


His most recent album, I Decided was released on February 3rd 2017 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, along with the hit single “Bounce Back.” He earned over 151,000 equivalent album units.


Big Sean also has an endorsement deal with Adidas.
